Good news! New Thirkell editions will be available in 2025, with some before the end of 2024. December 24th is the publication date – a bit late for Christmas presents – for “Demon in the House”, “The Duke’s Daughter”, “A Double Affair”and “Close Quarters” . These will be available online from Amazon, priced from £17.99 to £25.99.
The second batch in this series will arrive on 14th January 2025. “Happy Returns”, “Enter Sir Robert”, “Never Too Late” and “Love at All Ages” are expected to be priced between £21.99 and £25.99.
The new paperbacks are published by Open Road Integrated Media, who already make these titles available as eBooks (at slightly lower prices). Possibly the books are expensive for a first experimental, foray into Angela Thirkell’s work (so I’ll add here that the ATS has secondhand copies of the Barsetshire series for considerably less.)
New readers of any editions will be interested to see the website Novel Guides.
A little later in 2025, Virago Modern Classics will add “Jutland Cottage” and “County Chronicle” to the catalogue. Virago covers feature nostalgic original artwork, and the entire series makes a lovely addition to any bookshelf. Available for pre-order at £11.27 the books will also be available in bookshops from 10th April 2025.
Like to listen to Angela Thirkell while doing something else (perhaps even relaxing)? Virago’s audiobooks of “Jutland Cottage” and “County Chronicle” will launch on the same day.
The narrator has yet to be announced, but the audiobooks can be pre-ordered now from Audible.
