March 7th 2026 is the day that Angela Thirkell Society members will be on the move. Either by coincidence or planning, Saturday March 7th is the day chosen by both Midlands and Southern regional groups for their next in-person meetings.
Southern/London group will meet at 2pm at Windmill Road, Wimbledon Common and anyone who’ll have a long journey is welcome to arrive earlier with a packed lunch. The book under discussion this time is Summer Half (the group is undertaking the Barsetshire series in order). Tea at 4.30pm.

Midlands Group will meet in Harborne, Birmingham, gathering at around 11.30 for coffee and to get the discussion underway. Our spring meeting book is Ankle Deep, an early and, allegedly, semi-autobiographical novel about which Angela’s son, Colin MacInnes, had kind things to say (and draw, as the cartoon shows). We break for lunch, which is a shared meal with contributions from attendees. This is an opportunity to reveal your signature cake, channel Miss Pemberton, or find your inner Mrs Tebben (her approach to cheese has my approval).
We look forward to hearing what our members think of Ankle Deep, many of whom, I believe, haven’t read it before now, and to collecting Relusions for Ankle Deep‘s own forthcoming Relusion page.
Full details of both meetings are available from Rita Rundle (Southern) or Gill Watson (Midlands), whose contact details can be found in the Journal. Alternatively, email through the ATS website, or send a direct message from the Angela Thirkell Society page on Facebook.
Meetings are for members only, but membership is a bargain at £12 so please consider joining us. All ages and points of view are welcome!
